Safe Meat Handling

In the Kitchen

Slice meat thinly or cut into bite size pieces with ease when the meat is partially frozen.

Thaw frozen meat in the refrigerator or microwave, not at room temperature.

Always wash your hands in hot, soapy water before preparing, and after handling raw meat, poultry, seafood, or eggs.

Cook all meat and poultry—or casseroles that contain meat or poultry—at a minimum oven temperature of 325°F.

At The Grocery Store

Shop for meat and other cold and frozen products last. Use a cooler for the ride home, especially during the summer or if you’re running other errands.

Also- In your grocery cart, keep meat, poultry, or fish on the bottom so the juices don't drip on other food.
