Last week someone asked if I had ever been dissed for knitting. Intriguing question, that.
Not so much the question, itself. (But, why would people feel the need to do so?)
What really caught my attention was the word "dis". This word is not from the set of slang words used by my generation.
I proudly admit I am from the "Far Out" generation. We were the ones proclaiming "Make Love, Not War", aimed to be both "cool" and "grungy", and wouldn't trust anyone over 30. I have distinct memories of those days... I couldn't figure out why the Old Folks didn't stay current with expressions, fashion, music, etc.
Guess who's an Old Folk now!
Back in the "dark ages", (when I was young) my great-grandmother would tell me I "dasn't do" something. I'd be "clueless", "pitch a fit", and we'd have a failure to communicate.
But when she would say "My tongue twisted around my eye teeth, and I couldn't see what I was saying!", I knew exactly where she was coming from. "Been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt."
Language changes. Perspective changes. Each with time and age. If you are "404" about what today's generation says is "da bomb", you might consult this page:

In the meantime, I'll return to my knitting. And if someone decides to "dis" me for it- well, as Grandma used to say, "it don't make me no never mind, no how."
