A New Year's Eve

01/01/2006

Our New Year's Eve was quiet, in some ways, and a bit of theater in others.

Usually Will and I stay home and enjoy a quiet evening together. This year, Will volunteered to assist with the RV park's celebration activities.

First he helped serve up the evening's supper (steak, shrimp, or ribs); his previous experience as a restaurant cook aided him in this task.

After all the celebrators had been served, he popped home with a grilled steak. "Leftovers!"

We had dined together, earlier in the evening, but that steak did smell yummy. Charcoal grilled steak is not generally on our menu; just a taste, I said. I'm not really hungry, I said. That was really tasty, we said, as we finished off the last bite.

Another activity our Will had volunteered for included participating in a skit or two as part of the evening's entertainment.

Will is not a shy person; he loves to make people smile. Being on stage was a new adventure, however. Part of his material was to be ad-libbed. (Easy, for Will.) Part of his material was to present a story he had written. That was a new experience.

The story was nice bit of writing (read it here). He received applause and many nice comments from folks who approached him later in the evening.

By the time the New Year rolled into Tucson, we were tucked under the blankets, Will reading his book, I with my knitting. A quiet New Year, just as we like it.
