We headed south on Monday, intending to arrive in Arizona and then head to New Mexico. Our thought was to spend some time in New Mexico State Parks. Their parks are pleasant and RV-friendly.
About 5 minutes before the exit that would take us toward Arizona, we had the idea that maybe we should head into Southern Nevada like we had been planning before the equipment snafu. We talked about it (talked fast, the exit was coming up quickly) and decided to head for Nevada.
So here we are about an hour and a half west of Las Vegas, where it's warm during the day and cool at night. It's a nice place with friendly people and a safe neighborhood.
We plan to be here for a month or more.
So, we are finally sitting still for awhile and I can begin to gather in the bits of me that have been flapping in the wind.
Traveling full-time does change a person, I've realize lately. I know my outlook is different now than several years ago when we began this adventure.
For one thing, the nature of humanity has clarified considerably. We see the same tendencies, the same behavior in people wherever we are. We can't just decide that it is because the neighbors are weird or the town is ... pick your adjective. We (the people) are pretty much how we are, wherever we are.
The country side, on the other hand offers an amazing diversity. We haven't yet found an area that doesn't have a beautiful view of some sort.
Pahrump, Nevada is our home for the next few weeks. We arrived here, not because we had a plan to do so, but because our plans are subject to change in a heart beat. (We planned it, then changed our plan, then changed our plan again.)
That is another thing that is different now. Changing direction is easy. We've learned to enjoy the current location for the moment. And the next location will be interesting, too.
