One sure way to get out of a rut (although I can't say I recommend it) is to get sick enough you can't manage doing anything. Then when you are feeling better again, the old ruts seem boring, and you are ready for some new habits.
I speak from experience, here, and while I won't go into great detail about being "sick", I will say that several days of a darkened room, no noise, no light, no vibrations of any kind... all that tends to give a person a feeling of sensory deprivation.
So here I am, feeling somewhat human again and suddenly the old habits have poofed and I am ready for some new ones.
Breakfast is no longer a protein drink and coffee. This morning it was cottage cheese, a slice of melon, peanut butter bread and coffee. Not your conventional breakfast, true. But different than the old normal.
I used to be a dedicated Old Time Radio listener. Whenever I didn't actually have to focus, such as when knitting or something, my ears were plugged into recordings of Old Time Radio shows. Now, Old Time Radio is fun to listen to, but I'm switching to a more varied menu. Books! Recordings of books!
Last nite I finished up 3 pairs of mittens rescued from various stages of completion while listening to the first part of "The Twelfth Card", a mystery novel by Jeffery Deaver from Audible.com.
It was my first go at a Deaver novel, and the jury is still out as to whether another one will get downloaded.
Life is an adventure.
