Well.... it was an interesting week on the road last weekend. On Saturday, the wind kicked up while we were traveling across the Interstate from Flagstaff to New Mexico.
Long flat area for the most part with an occasional cliff to make the wind even trickier. So the wind was blowing about 40mph, I guess, and it caught the canopy and ripped it half across. Quite a little sail, that canopy. We got off the side of the road and managed to tie it down enough to make it to the next truck stop where we parked until the next morning.
Sunday we made it to Albuquerque where we now sit. Wind still a bit bracing but we shall stay a week to soothe our nerves and rest. By then the weather up north might be a bit warmer.
So we are safe enough, nerves jangled a bit but all healthy. I've declared a moratorium on adventures for awhile.
This seems to be a year of weird weather- last winter was a bit off with so much rain in the desert. (But the locals weren't complaining)
This campground appears to be full of fulltimers waiting for the weather up north to clear. Wind is the word of the day. I opened the bedroom window the other day while I was working in there are pretty soon I noticed a nice film of sand all over the bed. That's New Mexico.
Will says we have to put the dish down cause the wind is gusting so hard!
It has quieted down some - even could open a window yesterday without the rig filling with sand. And the weather up north still looks a bit iffy.
Hoping to be out of here on Tuesday but no promises.
We arrived in Loveland, Colorado this afternoon. We can only stay in this park tonite as they are expecting a big crowd before the weekend so will look for another park near here. The weather looks bad for a few days so we need to sit it out.
Then it is on to South Dakota.
Last nite we were in Trinidad, CO- found some snow on the ground but the weather was perfectly lovely. Heard they had 3 and a half FEET of snow just last Friday! Missed that one, huh!
It's been snowing here today. Which is why we decided to hang here instead of being on the road. The weather further north is even colder. Should pass and be spring-like tomorrow.
Leah and I stayed bundled under wool blankets today. Wet and snowy doesn't agree with either of us. It was a day of snoozing and Old Time Radio shows for entertainment :) Leah just snoozed. Will thought he was going to work but the day just seemed out of sync for all of us. Tomorrow spring arrives :)
