We arrived in South Dakota today! Seems like it took forever with waiting for the rig to get repaired.
We have much to accomplish here- New drivers license, new glasses, get the canopy replaced. And we will be making a trip to the reservation to deliver food, clothes, etc.
We had thought we might go to Glacier National Park this summer but looking at the map, it seems a long way away. Probably a result of the long trip here and the late start this spring.
Right now I feel like sitting here until fall!
We found a nice park near Sturgis (just north of Rapid City) that we like. Quiet and in the the hills surrounded by pines. We will be here a week and then we are going to journey to Wounded Knee where Pat Perkins lives to deliver some stuff for the community on Pine Ridge Reservation.
After that we might come back here or not- who knows.
Still raining but we went to Wounded Knee in spite of it all. Met with Pat Perkins to deliver the stuff we had collected. Also got to meet her daughters. It was an enjoyable afternoon.
Driving thru the reservation, the poverty is so evident. It is beautiful country but no jobs.
We will be here at Rush No More in the Black Hills of South Dakota at least thru June, possibly thru July. We won't be here during August as that is when the Harley-Davidson Rally takes place every year.
Not raining today for the first time in a week. Sun looks familiar but it has been a while....
I am finishing up a bunch of knitting this week to get sent off to the Society of Friends to be shipped to Afghanistan refugees. This time I have two kid sweaters and several hats and mittens for kids. Then in June is a big push to make mittens for an orphanage in Russia. A woman is going over to adopt two more kids (she adopted 2 before) and will take a suitcase of handmade mittens for the orphanage. Then.... I want to learn to make socks.
Tonite we are going to watch an old Dustin Hoffman movie- Tootsie. The campground has a small collection of tapes that can be borrowed as well as books.
