We are heading over to Quartzsite, AZ next weekend for the world's largest RV show. Quartzsite has about 700 (?) people in residence during the summer. During the winter, the population grows be several hundred thousand people- most camp on BLM land for about $100 for the winter. I gotta see this :)
The sun has just set behind the mountains. We sit in the midst of desert scrub at random distances from other rigs, other campers. We squat on BLM land outside of Quartzite, AZ. This is absolutely cool.
This has been such a relaxing day! Left the driveway of friends in Phoenix this morning, drove over to Quartzite and then north thru the mountains along the Colorado River.
I saw golf courses that were hard to believe! Greens and fairways tucked in among the hills- looking just as though the valley between the hills had been spray painted grass. I could tell they were golf courses by the carts and the outfits worn by the "hikers".
After our leisurely drive through the desert and mountains, we came back to Quartzite to camp for the night. We can stay for 14 nights for $25. Strictly boondocking, of course. Actually this atmosphere fits me better than the resort. I would have been happy in the wild west :)
Sitting in this desert, in this incredibly unique environment, fosters inspiration in a way that wouldn't be possible sitting in the RV resort in Casa Grande. In neat little rows, in tidy assigned spaces, everyone tidy with their cute little name tags. I'm enjoying this vacation from the "norm" :)
It rained this morning and then there was a double rainbow and a hummingbird sat on a branch of the brush just outside my window
Extraordinary day.
Heard the weather just now... gads, we are the only warm location in the country! 79 degrees today!
We had company today- Judy and Jack, friends from Phoenix and Serenata, a friend in Tucson all met here. We had good Mexican food ala Serenata's recipes and "Stuff" Judy brought for filling. Yum. Here's the trick for excellent Tacos. Make fresh Salsa with cilantro. Have the usual taco garnishes available. Tacos: Buy really good, thin corn tortillas at the Tortilla Factory. Spread each tortilla with raw hamburger. Fold in half and deep fry till hamburger is done. Pile on guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese... nosh till you can't eat any more. Oh and serve with really good beans which I don't have the recipe for yet. We also had homemade bean dip for chips.
OK, now I need a nap.
