South Toward AZ

On the road again! Getting too cold at base camp in Indiana. Heading south. We even drove over our 200 mile limit- made over 300 miles to Nashville, Tennesee. Still cool enough we need a heater this evening.

Back on the cellphone for internet connection. I had forgotten how slow it is.

South and west tomorrow. I am anxious for the desert but we don't have to rush to get there.

North Little Rock, Arkansas. A large park here with numerous activities offered, including an RV park. A lovely place to spend the weekend.

The oak trees drop the tiniest acorns I have ever seen. I wonder what type of oak they are...

Our plan, as of this moment, is to go thru Dallas on our way west. Of course with us, any plans are up for immediate revision.

Friday, William was digging around for a pair of shorts. (I had packed the hot weather clothes away in the furthest reaches under the bed.) This morning he was running the furnace. This is why we love this life... continuous variety. :)

Tonight we are in Texarkana- on the Arkansas side. We are staying at the Fairgrounds which rents out RV sites during the non-fair seasons. (Some do- smart idea, I think.) This one is quite nice. And comparatively cheap too! After the weekend at Little Rock, it was nice to be on the road again. We only did 140 miles today as Will needed to get his newsletter out. Tomorrow we begin the trek thru Texas.

New Mexico:
Today held spectacular scenery- constantly changing. From oil fields to cactus to bluffs then finally mountains. We traveled 6 or 7 hours and drove 260 miles. The 10 mph going down the mountain into Alamogordo was the slowdown. Steep grade and switch backs would be no problem with a car but the motorhome presents a different picture! As we came down we could see the White Sands in the distance. At first we thought it was low clouds over the valley then realized it was sand. Drove thru the Missile range and got a close up view of the White Sands. Saw a few fighter planes (military) practicing near Alamogordo. Fascinating day. Told William I could take years to explore this state.

Tonight we are in Las Cruces. I think we will be staying the weekend.

Funny thing ( ho ho )- saw blue sky and sunshine about half way thru today for the first time since Little Rock. Lovely dry sunshiny weather. Heard the forecast and they are expecting rain here this weekend, AAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! due to the hurricanes, it seems. Also looks like it will rain in Tucson and Phoenix. I feel like the Rainmaker.

Las Cruces, New Mexico:
It has been a pleasant 4 days here- even with the occasional rain. The big plus has been the sun shining on occasion, blue sky and all.

We are heading toward the Tucson, AZ area tomorrow. We will come back to New Mexico next spring when we can meander without worry about freezing pipes. (It snowed in Sante Fe a couple days ago!)
